On Tuesday, we participated in the Kingsley Invitational that hosted 8 teams and 83 male runners for varsity in addition to 15 teams and 159 male runners for the middle school race. This was much bigger than last year. For varsity, Mason again led the Sabres team with a 5k finish time of 18:38 and 10th place overall, earning him a medal. Dan Collins finished the course with a time of 20:04 for 28th place and just out of reach of a medal, but improved his time by over two and a half minutes from last year. The middle school 2-mile Kingsley race was well represented as usual. Chase Kinney led the team with a 13:04 finish (PR) and 30th place, while Lucas Jager was close behind at 13:33 and a 44th-place finish, and Liam Coles rounded out the results with a 14:19 finish and 67th place. The week wasn’t over yet for the Sabres as they also competed at the Hail Mary Run at Veronica Valley Park in Lake Leelanau, hosted by Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Friday, Oct 16th! The varsity field for the 5k race had 14 runners from 4 teams. Mason Jager (18:35) and Dan Collins (20:28) finished 2nd and 3rd, both earning medals! For the 3k middle school race (just shy of 2 miles) with 55 total runners and 9 teams represented, the Sabres finished in a very tight pack! Chase Kinney (12th place) and Lucas Jager (13th place) both finished with a time of 12:34, with Liam Coles hot on their heels with a 15th-place 12:44 finish. All received medals. This Wednesday, the varsity and middle school runners will compete at the Benzie Blitz Tune Up race at Benzie Central High School. This is a 2-mile race for both middle school and high school runners. The middle schoolers compete at 3:30 pm and the varsity runners are at 5:30 pm. On Saturday, the middle schoolers will finish out their season at the Region 7 MHSAA Regional Meet in Mancelona with a race time of 10 am.
